August 13, 2010, Newsletter Issue #18: Trends To Avoid

Tip of the Week

A basic overview of trends to avoid is: Looks from the eighties, Extremely Loose Fitting Clothes, Metallics (as a rule—avoid a whole outfit made of shiny fabric – however certain pieces are acceptable), or Full Satin outfits.  These are all to be avoided for different reasons; but in short, the basic theme here is affordability vs. wear-ability.  Simply put, if you don’t think the trend will last, then avoid it.  You should be able to tell if something is going to stick around by waiting at least one season before making the splurge.  If you must go for the trends and you’re on a budget, go for good looking and decent quality copies.  Since the look is trendy, there is no need to worry about it not lasting a long time since it will probably last at least as long as the trend.
